Is Yoga Demonic?

Rome’s chief exorcist, Father Gabriele Amorth, has reignited the debate over whether Christians can practice yoga by declaring that both yoga and Harry Potter are tools of the devil.

The NY Daily News is reporting that Father Amorth made the comments at a film festival in the Italian city of Umbria this week where he was invited to introduce the new movie, The Rite.

“Practicing yoga is Satanic, it leads to evil just like reading Harry Potter,” Father  Amorth said.

He went on to say that those seemingly “innocuous” Potter books convince kids to believe in black magic.

“In Harry Potter the Devil acts in a crafty and covert manner, under the guise of extraordinary powers, magic spells and curses.”

As for yoga, it leads to Hinduism and “all eastern religions are based on a false belief in reincarnation,” the 86-year-old priest said.

“Satan is always hidden and what he most wants is for us not to believe in his existence,” he said. “He studies every one of us and our tendencies towards good and evil, and then he offers temptations.”

  1. ..............I think everything in degrees of moderation. Yoga's not satanic, as long as you use it go glorify God.

And Harry Potter's no more evil than CS Lewis. It's just a different type of fantasy. It's not my favorite, but still. She doesn't portray the magic like black magic, it's just something that's THERE and they use it. There aren't any black Masses, there's no devil worship. The evil is evil and the good is good.
If you go looking for something anti-Catholic in a story, you're going to find it. Why can't we look for the good as well?

And I'm not trying to pick a fight, honestly. I'm just wondering how someone can outright say that something is evil, when there is so much good in it as well.

  2. I knew yoga was bad! i told that to my Psychiatrist before but she insisted but i only did the deep breathing exercises, not the stretches, and at the end, the guy in the video would say "namaste" but i thanked God and prayed to God. I don't use the DVD anymore and i'm so glad. Thank you for the info.

  3. In India they say there is no Hinduism without yoga, there is no yoga without Hinduism. Certainly, this pantheistic religion is from hell, their gods are but incarnations of evil spirits. No wonder that the powerful international organizations (the UN, etc.) that want to crush Christianity put so much effort and funding in supporting the New Age religion, of which yoga is such a big part. You cannot glorify God with a satanic rite. True, it is advertised as "exercise" but going for a walk burns out more calories that sitting in dump, awkward positions for a while. Relaxation with the devils? I think not.

CS Lewis works lead people to God, not away from God. They are deeply Christian in their message. Harry Potter is the opposite, it serves as an initiation into more New Age. It is against the First Commandment. Most of the time devil presents evil as good by making it appear as good and attractive, unless you deal with open satanists who do not care what others think of them. The international organizations that promote New Age use a lot more intelligent ways of instilling Eastern, esoteric practices in formerly Christian countries than satanists and so far they have been very successful. People do not suspect there is anything wrong with New Age - they say it is innocent and fun. No, it isn't.
