Daily Minute Meditation

Listen to the Message

I didn't have time to go looking for a minute meditation in my book (that's what I do when the ones from the website I go to aren't very good), so today I decided to post a song. I am asking that while you play this song, you listen to the words very closely. What is the meaning of this song? Post your thoughts in the comments below. :)

  1. I love this song. It's almost haunting, in a way.

The lyrics to this are tough to take, if you don't take the time to think through the situation of the person who tells his story throughout the song.

Our church's pastor just finished a series on the stages of faith. Put quickly (and very simply), the four stages are: no faith, having all the answers, realizing your answers don't work, and recognizing God for what He really is.

In my opinion, the lyrics reflect a man who is stuck somewhere between the second and third stages. He's been praying to God to answer his needs, to help him through his problems, without stopping to think about what God wants.

God is patient, and waits for us to realize that we aren't supposed to ask God to bend His will to meet our needs, but rather to bend our lives to meet His desire for us.

Finally, when the man in the lyrics reached the rock bottom, when he's lost everything that was important, he sees God for the first time, when there's no longer anything left for God to bend to, and then, and only then, could he see that God was there the whole time, waiting for his child to learn.

There are probably as many different ways to interpret this song as there are listeners, but this is how this song touches my heart.

Thanks so much for sharing it with us this morning!

  2. I like this explanation. Thank you for sharing your interpretation of it, Mr. Paulson. :)
